BIOHAQ VO₂ MAX TEST

Discover your cardiovascular capacity. Optimise your performance. Invest in your longevity.

From number to strategy: VO2 Max interpreted by a physician.

One of the most important indicators of fitness, cardiovascular health and longevity.

How well does your body perform when it is put under exertion?

VO₂ Max is the maximum amount of oxygen your body can take in, transport and use during intense physical exertion. It is one of the most relevant indicators of cardiorespiratory capacity and physical fitness.

Numerous studies have shown a strong association between cardiorespiratory fitness, cardiovascular health and long-term mortality risk.

A higher VO₂ Max is generally associated with a longer life expectancy and more years lived in good health.

At BiohaQ, VO₂ Max testing is carried out through a progressive exercise test, on a cycle ergometer or treadmill, under medical supervision.

Using a special mask and a respiratory gas analyser, we measure in real time your oxygen consumption (O₂), carbon dioxide production (CO₂) and your body's response to increasing exercise intensity.

Unlike the estimates provided by most smartwatches, this method allows direct measurement of respiratory gas exchange, providing an objective assessment of cardiorespiratory capacity.

We don't just estimate performance. We measure it.

What do you find out at the end of the test?

1. VO₂ Max – Your maximum aerobic capacity

You discover the level of your cardiorespiratory capacity, expressed in ml/kg/min and, where applicable, in L/min.

The result is interpreted in relation to your age, sex and the available reference values, to understand your current level of fitness.

2. Ventilatory thresholds – How your body responds to exercise

Where the data allow, we identify the ventilatory thresholds VT1 and VT2, which reflect changes in the respiratory and metabolic response as exercise intensity increases.

This information helps individualise training intensity and define exercise zones.

3. Personalised training zones

Based on the results, we can set recommendations on exercise intensity for:

  • Improving aerobic endurance.
  • Developing cardiovascular capacity.
  • Increasing physical performance.
  • High-intensity training.
  • Recovery and low-intensity physical activity.

Not everyone should train at the same heart rate. Individualised zones allow training that is better adapted to your functional capacity.

4. Cardiovascular and respiratory response to exercise

We assess how heart rate, oxygen consumption, ventilation and carbon dioxide production change during progressive exercise.

These data provide information about how your body adapts to physical stress and about any functional limitations that require further investigation.

5. An important indicator of health and longevity

Cardiorespiratory capacity is one of the strongest prognostic indicators of long-term health.

Epidemiological studies show that people with better cardiorespiratory fitness generally have a lower risk of cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality.

VO₂ Max is relevant both to the length of life (lifespan) and to the goal of maintaining health and functional capacity for as long as possible (healthspan).

Although it cannot predict an individual's life expectancy, monitoring it can help assess fitness and progress over time.

Why is it important to know your VO₂ Max?

Because what you measure, you can track and improve.

Cardiorespiratory capacity is not an indicator reserved for elite athletes.

It is relevant for anyone who wants to maintain their health, mobility, independence and exercise capacity as they age.

VO₂ Max can be improved through tailored physical training, and its progress can be tracked through periodic testing.

Testing is useful for:

  • Sedentary people who want to start a physical activity programme.
  • Active people who want to improve their endurance and cardiovascular fitness.
  • Amateur and elite athletes looking to optimise their training.
  • People interested in longevity, prevention and maintaining functional capacity.
  • People who want to monitor their progress after changing their lifestyle or starting a training programme.

What is included in VO₂ Max testing at BiohaQ?

✔ Progressive exercise test on a cycle ergometer or treadmill, depending on the chosen protocol.

✔ Direct measurement of respiratory gas exchange (O₂ and CO₂), using a specialised analyser.

✔ Determination of VO₂ Max or VO₂ peak, depending on the physiological criteria reached during testing.

✔ Assessment of the ventilatory thresholds VT1 and VT2, when these can be identified.

✔ Determination of individualised training zones, based on the measured parameters.

✔ Interpretation of the results by the medical team.

✔ Personalised report, with an assessment of cardiorespiratory capacity and recommendations for optimising fitness.

Measured. Interpreted. Turned into action.

At BiohaQ, VO₂ Max testing is not just about getting a number.

It means understanding your functional capacity and identifying concrete ways to improve your fitness.

Our goal is to turn physiological data into personalised recommendations for health, performance and longevity.

BiohaQ VO₂ MAX TEST

Know your current limits. Discover your potential. Build your healthy longevity.

Testing is performed after a medical assessment of fitness for exercise. Depending on the protocol and the level of exertion reached, the result may represent VO₂ Max or VO₂ peak. Respiratory gas exchange testing does not replace a cardiological assessment when this is indicated.
